The "Betsy Ross" and "Old Glory"

I love it when I come across a simple project for Jeromy to do at home! I found a great Make-A-Flag-Kit at one of my favorite discount stores about a month ago, and at the great price of $1.99, I figured it was worth buying then and holding on to. The kit came complete with printed backgrounds, die cut star stickers, and perforated stripes, and a 'blue field' for the two different flags. All we needed was scissors, glue stick, and a ruler. I knew we were going to be busy today at the annual Dundalk Heritage Fair (a post of that to come later), so a quick project like this was perfect. Jeromy's deep love of history came in to play as we read about the history of the American Flag, both the original 'Betsy Ross' version and the 'Old Glory' we have today. The kit also came with a short explanation of Basic Flag Etiquette and Care. Neither of us realized how many rules and regulations there were with respect to displaying and caring for 'Old Glory'. So now I'm sure that whenever we see an American flag on display, Jeromy will be scrutinizing it to see if the etiquette guidelines are being followed.
